The man set off in a kayak from the Upper Merion Township boathouse, 400 Falls View Drive, police said in a release. A selfie posted to his social media around 12:40 p.m. Monday showed him upstream from the launch site, authorities said.

Around 2 p.m., Upper Merion police received a report about a man calling for help about 1.1 miles from the boathouse. Police said they responded to the heavily wooded area but "could not hear or locate anyone in need of help."

The Upper Merion Crew Team set out to search the area around 4 p.m.

"Nothing out of the ordinary was reported by any of the crew members at that time," authorities said.

On Tuesday, April 30, police said they found the man's Toyota Rav4 parked near the boathouse and launched a search along the riverbanks. Hours later around 4 p.m., his kayak and other belongings were found snagged in a downed tree about 1,000 feet from the boathouse.

Police said they continued the search through 8 p.m. Tuesday and then again on Wednesday morning, May 1.

He was last seen wearing a grey hat, a bright-orange flotation device over a light-colored shirt, and grey shorts.
